Bird/Bat Houses
I built a bird/bat house. This house is made with a bird house in the front about 6”x6”x10” with a bat house in the rear with a double insulated wall in between.
The whole house is made out of cedar lumber. The roof is made of cedar shingles.
It also has two roof skylights so that the temperature in the bat house can stay approximately the same no matter which direction you place the house.
The bat house is made of 3/4" x 12" slotted sections for bats to hang on. The bird house is made to hold a nice family in a section. The roof can be removed for cleaning.
The house is built so that it can be installed on top of almost any roof. We also have 12" x 12"x 12" boxes to extend the house about 3’ above the roof to get the proper height off the ground.
You can use up to three of these boxes for this purpose. I believe we can save the lives of many bats by giving them this outside (the caves) protection from white nose syndrome.
I built this house with the 21/4" insulated wall so that both house can be inhabited at the same time.
